Cloud computing

In an increasingly digital world.

What is Cloud Computing?

As technology evolves, we can increasingly take advantage of the connectivity benefits it brings us. In short, Cloud Computing is a technology that uses this connectivity, with reach driven by the internet itself, to host various resources that we use in our daily lives to provide digital products and services.

You see, youve certainly had direct contact with Cloud Computing several times... When we edit a spreadsheet in Google Docs, we watch videos on YouTube, or Netflix, we are consuming content provided by a cloud structure. You didnt need to install anything to consume these services, right? This is because they are processed by computers and resources remotely, online, which we access through our internet browsers.

What is Cloud Computing for?

To understand the benefits of cloud computing we just need to understand what it replaces. Basically, to provide an online service before cloud computing, it would be necessary to have several servers with an adequate infrastructure such as: place for the disposal of machines, adequate air conditioning, network system, high-performance links, not to mention the necessary maintenance cycles. And this is just the beginning.

Knowing this, imagine now that there is a more "democratic" way to have access to this type of infrastructure and technological resources, whether for personal or professional purposes, where there is no need to worry about physical space, air conditioning logistics, scale of maintenance and allows you to dynamically scal your infrastructure. Well, this mode is called Cloud Computing.

Basically, it offers the technological resources we need and, most interestingly, as we need them. You can request a minimum structure to provide your service and scale it according to your needs. Here, the big advantage is that you can create structures that cost you in proportion to their use, that is, their cost is proportional to their use.

What services does Cloud Computing provide?

The three main services that we can extract from Cloud Computing are:

SaaS - Software as a Service

Software as a Service is the most popular use of Cloud computing. Here, you have access to the software without the need to purchase a license, generally being able to use it in a limited way in relation to the resources that the technology itself limits. It is also common to have plans paid according to the resources available to the application.

In this format, there is no need to worry about licensing, installing or configuring software, basically everything is provided in-line online. You just need to login. As an example of applications that use this technology, we can mention Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype and WhatsApp, in addition to several CRMs and ERPs.

IaaS - Infrastructure as a Service

In this model, the keyword is: Scalability. You pay as you consume and are free to add or remove resources at any time, such as servers, for example. Imagine it as a pay TV service. You can hire it and increase or decrease the number of channels, as well as cancel the service at any time.

Here, infrastructure resources are leased, such as servers, routers, racks, data centers, hardware and other tools that allow data transmission and storage.

PaaS - Platform as a Service

A more robust model of cloud computing. is a complete cloud-based development and deployment environment, with features that enable you to deliver everything from simple cloud-based applications to sophisticated cloud-enabled enterprise applications. You purchase the resources you need through a cloud service provider on a pay-per-use basis and access them over a secure Internet connection.

This model includes operating systems, database management systems, development services, BI in addition to all the necessary structure to manage and expand these resources.
